Radiation Oncology
The Alfred Health Radiation Oncology unit has a team of highly experienced and specialised staff, utilising modern and regularly upgraded equipment. This ensures we are at the forefront of radiation therapy treatment, providing the best possible advice, treatment and follow-up for our patients.
Clinical service overview
The Alfred Health Radiation Oncology unit began at The Alfred in 1992.
As well as conventional external beam radiotherapy, the Alfred Health Radiation Oncology unit specialises in:
- stereotactic radiotherapy
- radiosurgery
- stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
- brachytherapy
Alfred Health Radiation Oncology continues to invest in the latest and most effective radiation therapy equipment available to provide a comprehensive range of treatment options for our patients.
Alfred Health Radiation Oncology will accept referrals for all cancer types treatable with radiation therapy. Note The Alfred does not treat children, though it may treat mature teenagers.
We care for people throughout Victoria. We have clinics at 7 outpatient clinic sites in metropolitan Melbourne and south-east Victoria, and we offer radiation therapy at 2 sites, The Alfred and LaTrobe Regional Hospital.
The outpatient clinics are operated from:

It is the eastern-most radiation therapy department in Victoria and service patients from the NSW border to the Bass coast and Pakenham, treating all adult cancer types.
