Alfred Health is part of Australia's public health care system and offers hospital care to any Australian resident under Medicare arrangements.

When you are admitted, you will be asked whether you would like to be treated as a public or private patient. If you choose to use your private health insurance, all services including Pathology, Radiology, surgery and consultations will be covered.

Private patients

Private patients

As a Medicare eligible patient, you can elect to use your Private Health Insurance at Alfred Health and we will ensure that you have no out-of-pocket expenses.

Some charges do apply

Regardless of whether you are a public or private patient, you will have to pay for any prescribed discharge medications you take home with you, some medications prescribed during day-only admissions, or supporting aids such as crutches, CAMwalkers (moonboots), walking frames, etc.

These are costs you would have had to pay, whether or not you use your private health insurance.
