Mentoring the next generation of Pacific neurosurgeons
The Alfred is pleased to host Dr Samuela Nanovu as he completes eight weeks of mentorship under neurosurgeon Dr Ron Jithoo OAM, having been conferred this year’s RACS International Recipient Award.
Currently a trainee neurosurgeon at Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva, Fiji, Dr Nanovu is on track to becoming the country’s third ever Fijian neurosurgeon.
So far, Dr Nanovu has observed The Alfred’s trauma team at work, as well as several complex neurosurgery procedures, some of which aren’t yet available in Fiji.
“I was excited to come here to learn more about new surgical techniques, the nuances of surgery and new developments happening in the space,” Dr Nanovu said.
“But what has really surprised and impressed me are the excellent systems you have, especially in trauma.
“While facilities, location and demographic play a part, it’s the systems devised by clinicians who are thinking outside of the box that sets The Alfred apart.”
Neurosurgeon Mr Ron Jithoo OAM said he’s proud to be Dr Nanovu’s mentor.
“It’s an honour to be able to host Dr Nanovu at The Alfred,” Mr Jithoo said.
“Not only is he a fantastic surgeon, but his skillset is also invaluable to the entire Pacific region.
“We very much extend our warmest welcome to him.”
