Pain Medicine Short Course 2024 (September)
This course is an introductory overview to perioperative and acute-on-chronic pain management relevant for medical, nursing and allied health staff.

Why do the course
Through following the journey of a patient with chronic pain who needs acute care and new surgery, participants will develop an appreciation of the burden of chronic pain, the mechanisms behind both acute and chronic pain, how to best assess patients with pain and ways we can modify the patient experience to help minimise the burden of pain in these patients
Who the course is aimed at
This course is aimed at clinical staff who would like an introductory overview to perioperative and acute-on-chronic pain management.

Course structure
- Six interactive modules including videos, reading packages, journal articles, quizzes
- One module is released each week
- Once a module is released participants can work at their own pace
- No assessment

- Pain primer
- Pain history talking
- Pre-hospital optimisation of patient prior to surgery
- In-hospital perioperative management of pain
- Post-hospital management of pain after surgery
- CCRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome)
Course duration
6 weeks of online learning.
Time commitment
4-6 hours per week (on average).
Course fee
- Doctors - AUD $800 (inc GST)
- Nurses/Allied Health Professional and other AUD $400 (inc GST)
All registrants will be required to provide proof of speciality registration.
