In 1978 Melbourne staged its first marathon on a course that began in Frankston, headed up Nepean Highway and finished outside the Melbourne Town Hall. Over 2000 runners took part in the inaugural event with most catching a special early morning train to Frankston.
The Medibank Melbourne Marathon is a competitive, adrenaline-filled race for those experienced in marathon running who want to set a PB on our fast and flat course, and is also perfect for first-timers and less experienced marathon runners. Runners circle around Albert Park Lake, Flinders Street Station, pass the St Kilda beach foreshore and cross the finish line at the MCG to cheers from supporters, family and friends.
Once registered to participate in the Melbourne Marathon you can walk, run or roll as part of #TeamAlfred and help The Alfred to redevelop our facilities, improve patient care, build our knowledge and share our learnings with the world.
