The Greenhouse offers a comfortable, supportive environment with single and double rooms. Here’s what you need to know when preparing for admission.
Meals and Food Safety
The Greenhouse provides three daily meals plus morning tea, afternoon tea and supper, catering to cultural and religious requirements.
Families bringing food must follow food safety guidelines, as we can’t accept responsibility for food prepared outside the facility. Alcohol isn’t permitted. Please check with nursing staff before offering any food or drink to patients.
Medications
Please don’t bring any medications unless staff request them. Patients aren’t allowed to bring prescription or over-the-counter medications, such as Panadol or vitamins.
What to Pack
- Comfortable clothing
- Safe footwear
- Personal toiletries
Please leave valuables at home, as we can’t take responsibility for items that aren’t secured.
Technological Devices
We recommend leaving mobile phones, cameras and computers at home since we can’t guarantee their security. If brought, please notify nursing staff so the items can be documented. Recording anyone without permission is strictly prohibited, so always check with staff first.
What Not to Bring
Do not bring illicit substances, including:
- Illegal drugs (e.g. cannabis, opiates and some stimulants)
- Pharmaceutical drugs when used for non-medical purposes (e.g. painkillers, tranquilisers)
Inappropriately used substances (e.g. inhalants).
Smoke-Free Policy
Alfred Health is a smoke-free zone, and smoking is not allowed on hospital grounds. Patients must store lighters in the secure property room. Please speak to staff for more information.
