Information for carers

We value family and partner involvement in patient care and maintain regular contact throughout the admission.

Carer’s Certificates

Medical staff can provide Carer’s Certificates for attending appointments with your relative or friend.

Payment

The Greenhouse is a free, publicly funded service. Patients can also choose to be admitted as private patients, with no out-of-pocket expenses. Private health fund payments help us improve services, but private rooms or extra services aren’t guaranteed. Please speak with staff for more details.

Medication Information

If you’re directly involved in the patient’s care and they consent, you have the right to medication information. The pharmacist will review medications with you before discharge and you can discuss with the treating team.

Raising Concerns

The medical team welcomes any concerns or questions. We will provide contact details and follow-up information for post-discharge support.

Follow-up Meetings

Your attendance depends on the patient’s needs, which may change over time. The treating team will discuss appointments, support networks, and the discharge plan during the final meeting.

Carer Support

Alfred Health understands that admission of a relative or friend to The Greenhouse can be stressful.

Our Carer Consultant, available Tuesdays and Wednesdays, provides emotional and practical support based on lived experience. To connect, please ask nursing staff or call (03) 9076 6184.
