Dr Louise Segan

Dr Louise Segan is a consultant cardiologist and clinical electrophysiologist at The Alfred who specialises in management of heart rhythm disorders including cardiac device implantation and monitoring and ablation procedures.

Dr Segan completed a PhD in cardiac electrophysiology through the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Professor Peter Kistler, Professor Jon Kaman and A/Prof Sandeep Prabhu.

Dr Segan’s research focuses on optimising outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure well as focusing on improving recognition of the important role of lifestyle modification in AF management.

She firmly believes in the pivotal role of lifestyle modifications and risk management in altering the trajectory of AF. Embracing a holistic and preventative approach, Dr Segan focuses on individualised risk assessment and reduction strategies in AF management.

Dr Segan is passionate about and dedicated to improving patient outcomes and access to specialised care. She also supervises the rapid access AF clinic at The Alfred Hospital. This initiative aims to enhance AF education, streamline management, and reduce the time to access specialist care for patients newly diagnosed with AF.

Through her combined efforts in research and clinical practice, Dr Segan aspires to elevate outcomes for patients with AF and heart failure while enhancing communication between clinicians and patients, ultimately fostering better access to specialised care and improving overall quality of life.
