Hospital and external resources for research

When planning research to be conducted at Alfred Health, researchers must consider the information needs of other services directly or indirectly involved in the research. Support must be sought in advance from the resource manager or other relevant body by the means specified on the following pages - regardless of the source of funding and whether or not the service/resource would ordinarily be used in the provision of routine care to patients.

Dedicated Resource Centre Declarations

For Cardiology services, Clinical Trials Pharmacy, Data and Analytical services, Health Information services, Lung Function services, Nursing services, Pathology and Anatomical Pathology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Oncology, and Sleep Laboratory.

Department/Service Endorsements

For Digital Health assessment, Emergency services, Intensive Care Unit services, and Trauma services

Other services & General Resource Centre Declaration

For Biomedical Engineering, Biostatistical assistance, Performance analysis and clinical costing service.
For services without a dedicated reseource centre declaration or dedicated endorsment process.

Use of external resources for research

For Ambulance Victoria, Baker Heart and Diabetes biobank, imaging and clinical physiology.

In addition, researchers must consider the need for Alfred Health Committee endorsement if the research involves

  • Genetically modified organisms - GMO Advisory Committee
  • Equipment and devices - Product Introduction Group / Stakeholder Review
  • New invasive procedures or implanted devices - Clinical Innovations Committee
  • Artificial intelligence – AI Proposals Working Group
