Angiotensin II in lung transplantation to improve renal and respiratory outcomes - a feasibility study [the ALTER-outcomes feasibility study] (ACTRN12625001374459)

Low blood pressure is very common after lung transplant surgery, even in patients who normally have high blood pressure. Angiotensin-II is a synthetic equivalent to a naturally occurring chemical in your own body that increases blood pressure. In some studies of participants given angiotensin II, those who were given angiotensin-II had evidence to suggest improved kidney health outcomes.

Key inclusion data

Inclusion criteria: All adult patients undergoing lung transplantation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Exclusion criteria: Planned single lung transplant, Planned for cardiopulmonary bypass or extracorporeal support intraoperatively, Pre-existing renal replacement therapy, Current inpatient with established AKI, Other organ transplantation, High angiotensin II receptor antibody levels (threshold based on up date analysis of data).
