Dr Sam Fiorenza
Sam is a clinical haematologist and active translational researcher in the field of lymphoma and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy.
Sam completed his PhD with renowned Australian Immunologist Professor Ian Frazer at the same time as his medical degree at the University of Queensland. Avoiding the sunshine, he then migrated to Melbourne for physician and haematology training at the Alfred, Royal Melbourne Hospitals, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Melbourne Pathology whilst finishing a Master of Public Health at Monash University.
Seeking even worse weather, he undertook a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, USA, in CAR-T cell therapy with Professor Cameron Turtle - world-leader in this exciting field of immune therapy.
After developing a liking for NFL, he came back to Australia where he helped move Professor Turtle's lab back to the University of Sydney and where he continues to undertake active research to understand how the immune system can be improved to cure blood cancers. He is also the Deputy Director for Cell Therapy at Epworth Hospital. Sam is incredibly proud to work at the Alfred Hospital where he was an intern and is excited to bring next generation immune therapies, like CAR-T cell therapy, to Alfred patients.
