Allied Health Students
We welcome secondary school and undergraduate allied health students to experience what it is like to build a career working in our highly skilled and highly varied roles across allied health.
Undergraduate students
We provide over 12,000 clinical placement days to more than 400 allied health students from 10 education providers annually.
Our two major education provider partners are La Trobe University and Monash University. These clinical schools provide some dedicated student space at The Alfred site.
Education providers work with students to ensure any and all pre-placement checks, processes, and vaccination requirements are in place prior to your placement commencing.
Secondary school students
Our work experience placements are based at one of our three hospital campuses (The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital, Sandringham Hospital). The week of placement sees students move between a variety of our professions, that they’re able to appreciate the diversity of our disciplines, and the way we work together to help our patients.
Students may experience:
- Patients being assessed and receiving therapy in the hospital wards after surgery or illness
- The multidisciplinary healthcare team working together to enable patients to be discharged home safely from hospital
- Patients being seen in specialised outpatient clinics
- Patients being fitted for a splint or with equipment to help them regain their independence
By the end of the program, students will have a good understanding of what allied health professionals do and have observed what it is like to work in a large public hospital service. We hope these experiences inspire students along a journey to become healthcare professionals.
