Burns registry
Clinical data on all patients admitted with acute burn injury to all ANZ specialist Burns Units is collected for the BRANZ in order to monitor care and examine risk-adjusted outcomes.
In the 2014 fifth annual report, data were presented for 2,656 burns patients treated at 15 of 17 ANZ Burns Units. BRANZ data from the last five years provide emerging evidence of variation in clinical practice between units.
A review of the dataset and quality indicators as the first stage of the Burns Quality Improvement Program (BQIP) has commenced. The BQIP will assist burn centres to monitor individual performance and provide quality improvement resources to assist in making changes directed at achieving best outcomes for our patients.
