Support Services Transition

Non-Clinical Support Services will join Alfred Health from May 1, 2024

In early March we distributed letters to all Downer staff, sharing that Alfred Health intends to offer ongoing employment to the Downer staff currently working at the health service.  We are delighted to have had such a positive response, with so many staff signing on to continue working with Alfred Health.

This webpage provide links and information to help update you on everything you need to know about your transition of employment.

Important – if you have not yet accepted your offer but intend to, please sign and return your letter and documents to the locked box opposite the lounge room/number 2 tearoom on the LGF as soon as possible.

Downer-Spotless Transition - Exciting Changes Ahead

Frequently asked questions - Transition

What changes can I expect with the transition to Alfred Health?

With the transition to Alfred Health, your employment will continue seamlessly. Your experience and contributions will be fully recognised by Alfred Health.

Will my leave accruals transfer to Alfred Health?

Yes, your accrued leave will transfer with you to Alfred Health. This includes any accumulated but untaken annual leave, personal (sick) leave, and other applicable leave types.

When will I receive confirmation of the transfer of my employment?

We aim to provide you with a formal letter confirming the transfer of your employment from Spotless to Alfred Health in late February. This letter will outline the details of the transfer and address any specific terms or conditions. It will also reflect your current part-time or full-time work arrangements.

What options do casual employees have during the transition?

Casual employees who have six months or more of regular and systematic employment in their current role with Spotless at Alfred Health, will have the option to elect permanent ongoing employment with Alfred Health or to remain as a casual employee.

I am currently on a fixed-term contract, how will this work?

Your new role at the Alfred will be on a permanent contract basis and will reflect your current full-time or part-time work pattern.

How will enterprise agreements be affected by the transition?

It is our plan that employees who work under an enterprise agreement will move to the specific enterprise agreement that covers your Alfred Health colleagues. This will require a special application to The Fair Work Commission.  The new agreement, overall, offers more favourable terms, including enhanced benefits such as pro-rata long service leave, five weeks of annual leave, an additional week for weekend shift workers, and access to salary packaging for tax savings.

What support will be provided during this transition period?

We understand that transitions can be challenging, and we are committed to providing support during this period. Regular communication updates will be shared to keep you informed, and your supervisors will be available to address any questions or concerns you may have.

How does Alfred Health view this change?

Alfred Health views this transition as positive, and we are excited to officially welcome you into our community. Your skills and dedication are valued, and we look forward to the continued success we can achieve together.

Where can I find more information about the transition?

Over the coming weeks and months, we will be working hard to provide you with more detailed information about the transition. In the meantime, if you have specific questions, please reach out to your supervisor as your first point of contact.
