Relocation of select specialist clinics and allied health

To ensure we can continue providing exceptional care to our community, important infrastructure works are currently underway at The Alfred.

To facilitate these works, most of our Respiratory Specialty Clinics will be moving to a new location within the hospital site.

What clinics are moving? Where are they going?

All Respiratory Specialty Clinics currently located in Area A Philip Block Level 2, Area N Alfred Lane House Ground Floor, and Area H Alfred Centre Level 1, will be relocating to Area B East Block Ground Floor.

Some Allied Health services for the Heart & Lung Program will also relocate from Level 4 of the main Hospital to East Block Ground Floor.

The decision to move these specialty clinics to the same location is based on supporting greater co-location of clinics within the same department, providing a better and more consistent experience for our patients and staff.

When will the Respiratory Specialty Clinics be moving? 

Services will commence moving from mid-November 2026.

Changes in access

Cystic Fibrosis Clinics and Endocrinology in Cystic Fibrosis Clinics will remain in Area B, East Block Level 2. However, entry to East Block is from Commercial Road, or via the Courtyard.

Making the move to East Block Ground Floor

Will I receive the same standard of care at East Block Ground Floor? 

Yes. East Block Ground Floor is being freshly refurbished. You will continue to receive high-quality care in a safe and friendly environment.

Where is East Block?

East Block is located within the 55 Commercial Road building of The Alfred Complex. It is around x metres from the hospital Main Reception, walking along Commercial Road.

Can I take public transport to East Block?

Tram number 72 stops in front of The Alfred main entrance and near to East Block entrance. Some of these trams offer wheelchair or disability access, but there is no regular timetable for these specific trams. Tram numbers 3, 5, 6, 16, 64 and 67 stop on St Kilda Road at the Commercial Road intersection, which is x metres from The East Block entrance. There is a digital tram timetable display at main reception and in The Alfred Café.

Bus number 604 stops on Commercial Road. Bus number 246 stops on Punt Road at the Commercial Road intersection and is x metres from The East Block entrance.

Where can I park at East Block?

Car parking is available at The Alfred Centre patient Car Park. This is approximately 350 metres from the ground floor of the Car Park to East Block. There is also limited street parking available, including on Moubray Street.

What support is available if I have accessibility requirements?

There is a patient drop-off zone for The Alfred at the main foyer at 55 Commercial Road. Please ask our staff if you require any specific support accessing our services.
