Tim takes on Run Melbourne

30 June 2026

It was while visiting his dad in The Alfred’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) that Tim Morrison was first inspired to give back.

After seeing his dad flown from Wangaratta to The Alfred in February this year and then spending two weeks in the ICU among 70 days at the hospital, Tim saw posters advertising Run Melbourne.

“Seeing the ICU staff and everyone at the hospital with the work that they do, I thought raising money while taking part in Run Melbourne would be a small token of appreciation,” he said.

Tim’s dad was taken to The Alfred because of its hyperbaric chamber within the ICU, helping treat his condition.

Taking part in the half-marathon at the July 19 event, Tim is a Charity Superstar for The Alfred Foundation, having raised about $1000.

“I am grateful that people have gone out of their way to respond to the fundraising,” he said.

As a former AFL boundary umpire, Tim has plenty of miles in his legs. But after retiring about five years ago and now with two young children, finding the time to get into a training routine for the event had been a bit of a challenge.

Since starting training, Tim has been enjoying the benefits of what running is doing for him.

“I’ve rediscovered the strong benefits for my wellbeing and whatnot. Training was hard at the start, but now I’ve hit my old self again,” he said.
