What we do

• We aim to provide the highest quality evidence-based care and support in diagnosis, treatment and lifestyle modifications for people living with MS and NI conditions
• We hope to partner with people living with MS and NI conditions, their families, their GP, and other community care providers to provide the best integrated care possible
• We strive to meet brain health recommendations in MS for people attending our clinic and empower people living with MS to support their brain health through knowledge sharing
• Our partnership with Monash University and Alfred Brain allows people living with MS or NI conditions opportunities to participate in research programs
• We specialise in women’s health including pregnancy planning, pregnancy, and post-partum care. We also have a special interest in menopause and its effects on women living with MS and NI conditions.
• Our clinic assists in transition of care from paediatric to adult in people living with MS and NI conditions and have a strong partnership with our colleagues in paediatric care. We acknowledge that this time may be stressful for you and your family. We aim to provide a supportive transition and welcome you to contact and visit before your appointment.
• We are a multidisciplinary clinic including neurologists, MSNI nurses, physiotherapy, psychology, neuropsychology and dietitians. We run regular multi-disciplinary meetings to support high quality care for our patients.

We provide this service at two locations - here at The Alfred, and at Caulfield Hospital.

How to access this clinic

Referral from your GP

You need a valid referral letter from your GP or medical practitioner to access this clinic and continue ongoing care.

Your doctor will need to upload your referral letter to us. We will be in contact with you to arrange a consultation within 4 weeks. Your GP can expedite your referral if urgent by emailing the MSNI office on msniadmin@alfred.org.au

What to bring

Every time you come

• Medicare card
• Health Care Card and/or concession card (if you have one)
• Private health insurance card (if applicable/if you want to use it)
• Adverse drug alert card (if you have one)
• Previous X-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
• Medicines you need to take while you are here
• List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
• Glasses, hearing aid(s) and/or walking frame if needed

For a clinic appointment

• Your appointment letters
• Any special items listed on your letter
• TAC or WorkCover claim number (if relevant)
• List of all medications including dosage
• A one-page summary of your story of symptoms and tests to assist our staff understand you and your condition
