What we’ve funded
Highlights of the past achievements of the Father’s Day Appeal
Since it first launched in 2000, donors to The Alfred Father’s Day Appeal have assisted in funding significant lifesaving initiatives, including:
- The $1.5 million redevelopment of the Burns Unit – which played a key role in treating burns patients admitted following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.
- Redeveloping and expanding The Alfred’s Emergency and Trauma Centre, facilitating a 50% increase in clinical capacity.
- Developing a 48-bed Cardiac and Thoracic Centre – Victoria’s premier cardiac facility treating the most critical heart patients.
- Improving care for trauma patients by supporting world-leading research and purchasing lifesaving equipment to treat critically ill patients requiring life support.
- Increasing the capacity and redevelopment of The Alfred Intensive Care Unit – Australia’s largest and most technologically advanced ICU.
- Equipping the new elective surgery centre – The Alfred Centre – the first one-stop shop patient care facility in a public hospital.
- Assisting with the purchase of a new 3T MRI. A state-of-the-art machine twice as quick as other MRIs that is less invasive, more accurate and detailed.
- Upgrading the Cardiac Centre, increasing capacity to provide vital procedures for the growing number of Victorians with serious heart conditions.
- Purchasing specialised equipment to allow for patient records to be stored electronically in the largest technology improvement in The Alfred’s history. This included the purchase of computers on wheels, vital signs monitors and electrocardiogram (ECG) machines that could be integrated with the hospital’s new electronic patient records system.
