Research Week at The Alfred
About Research Week at The Alfred
Research Week at The Alfred focuses on several major events showcasing research; the Research Poster Display, the presentation of the Alfred Research Alliance Research Prizes, and Research Day. Research Week is hosted by the Alfred Research Alliance and showcases the brilliant research undertaken across The Alfred precinct.
Throughout this week, there are several important events held which celebrate our research achievements:
Research Poster Display
The annual Alfred Week Research Poster Display features the latest in research from across the Alfred Research Alliance. In 2018, close to 180 research posters were displayed for a week from 18 – 22 June, on the ground floor of The Alfred hospital.
Prizes are awarded for the posters judged best in categories such as infectious diseases, cardiovascular disease, mental health, nursing and allied health.
Researchers interested in submitting an abstract for consideration can find out more.
Convened by Alfred Health's Director of Research, Research Day features a keynote address delivered by an inspiring individual with deep associations with research.
In 2018 we were honoured to hear from Susan Alberti AC, one of Australia’s pre-eminent philanthropists, having donated millions of dollars to medical research and other charitable causes over her successful business career.
Alfred Research Alliance Research Prizes
The Alfred Research Alliance Research Prizes (clinical and basic) are awarded annually on Research Day for the best original research articles published in the previous calendar year.
The 2018 winner of the Prize for Basic Research was Professor Dmitri Sviridov, (Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute), while two awards were made for Clinical Research, to Professor Jamie Cooper (Monash University and Alfred Health) and Professor Paul Myles (Monash University and Alfred Health).
