Joining forces to help rural staff shortage
Central Gippsland Health Service and The Alfred Pharmacy Department have partnered to address staff shortages in rural areas.
Every six months, a pharmacist from the Foundation Residency Program will rotate to Sale Hospital's Surgical and Women's Health Unit, giving early career pharmacists invaluable experience in a rural setting, while meeting the area's staffing needs.
Matt Bianco (pictured) is the first foundation resident at Sale Hospital, and has found his surgical rotation rewarding.
"I’m one month in at Sale Hospital - it’s been excellent. The team is small and close-knit, always willing to help and make sure you’re settling in," Matt said.
"The surgical ward has a huge variety of patients, so every day there’s a new challenge.”
The pharmacy team is excited to see how this partnership develops in the future, while providing valuable career development opportunities.
