The Alfred Information Technology Services Department provides support for the use and development of information and communications technology across Alfred Health.
This is achieved through:
the implementation and support of a number of enterprise applications, used in both clinical and non clinical aspects of service delivery across the hospitals
implementation and support of a range of specific departmental applications
provision of guidance about the potential application of information and communications technology to support various aspects of the business
support and on going development of a complex technology infrastructure
support and on going development of a complex communications infrastructure
provision of support and training for the users of these systems
The Help Desk is the first contact point in ITS for staff to register a problem or query related to operation or use of the various IT systems.
These will range from a major issue affecting many users across the 3 hospitals in Alfrerd Health to individual user problems or buying software, hardware or upgrades.
ITS is responsible for the implementation and on going support of applications designed to meet Alfred Health needs. Some development is undertaken within the department but major enterprise applications are purchased from external parties.
By assisting hospital staff in the acquisition of new applications or technology, ITS attempts to ensure that all acquisitions will optimally meet the needs of staff and will effectively utilise the existing hospital infrastructures
Alfred Health has a comprehensive and complex ICT infrastructure which includes a fleet of approximately 2,000 PCs, extensive local area networks (LAN) across each of the hospitals, a wide area network (WAN) connecting the hospitals and approximately 60 servers.
Staff in the Technology and Operations team are technically trained and experienced to provide support and administration for this infrastructure.
As new applications are implemented or existing applications upgraded ITS provides training services to meet the needs of all staff.
In addition to this training, the Human Resources Department uses the services of an external training company to provide training sessions on general PC use and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel etc)
