What Our Grads Say

Listen to what our recent graduates have to say about our Graduate Nurse Program Alfred Health.

Kathryn – 2012 (General Program)

The Alfred Health Graduate Nurse Program provides the opportunities to experience and achieve great things in the beginning of a nursing career and helps to create the stepping stones for future professional development. The extraordinary support throughout the program was individualised to each of our learning styles and enabled the graduates to develop new skills, knowledge, confidence and helped us to embrace the many challenges of every day work. The Graduate Nurse Program was designed well to help new nurses in their transition into nursing and encourage ongoing nursing careers.

Mike – 2013 (General Program)

"Completing my grad year at The Alfred has been one of the most challenging adjustments I've made, but it has also been extremely rewarding. Since my first day in the program, the support and resources made available to us has been outstanding. Being surrounded by supportive and knowledgeable colleagues allows graduates to maximise their learning opportunities in their clinical areas, and I certainly feel that I could not have been more supported in my transition from student to nurse. The culture of The Alfred in providing excellence in care is reflected in the high standards at which graduates are facilitated, and I feel this is an invaluable attribute for a graduate program and certainly sets The Alfred apart from many of the other graduate programs on offer."

Melissa- 2012 (Mental Health)

Being apart of the Alfred Mental Health Graduate Nurse program has truly been a privilege. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work along side some of the most enthusiastic, encouraging clinicians, whose guidance and willingness to lend a helping hand has been inspirational. With an extensive orientation, an extremely supportive team environment,  a wealth of resources and numerous educational sessions over the year I have never felt alone, even in the most demanding and challenging situations.  I have had the opportunity to not only develop my clinical skills but also develop a true understanding of mental health care which is a credit to the well structured program. Alfred Psychiatry truly does offer a safe, supportive and enjoyable work environment which has been pivotal in my professional development and growth as a mental health nurse. I would highly recommend the program to new graduates.

Linda- 2012 (Mental Health)

Mental health nursing is a challenging, complex and ever developing area of nursing. As a mental health clinician at the Alfred, I am constantly faced with opportunity to learn and grow within a supportive and inspiring team. The Alfred Mental Health Graduate Nurse Program provides an extensive orientation program, the training you need to confidently and safely provide care for the most acutely mentally unwell in Victoria. The Program is well structured and the year taught me the true meaning of holistic care as our clients often experience physical comorbidities along side with mental illness and emotional and social struggles. The rewards are many, from patient recovery and family gratitude to career opportunities and the ability to make a change. I feel privileged to work with such an inspiring and passionate group of people and the friendly, patient and timely support they have provided has been essential to my professional journey.

Nigel- 2011 (Mental Health)

Completing the Alfred Mental Health Graduate Nurse Program has been an enriching experience that has affirmed my career in mental health. It has been a privilege to work alongside such inspiring clinicians and to call them colleagues. Their knowledge, camaraderie, and willingness to help has been pivotal in the formation of my own clinical skills and nursing ethos.  Although there has been challenging moments throughout the program, I have felt constantly supported and have always been provided with ample resources to access assistance when needed.  The structure of the program, including an abundance of education sessions, has ensured my professional development has steadily flourished. For me, the Alfred Mental Health Graduate Nurse Program has been an optimum platform to launch my nursing career.
