How We Look After Our Staff

Some of our current staff benefits include a formal reward & recognition program, salary packaging, fully equipped gymnasium, subsidised physiotherapy, careers counselling, peer support and yoga classes. A child care centre is also located on site.

Fitness Centre

The Alfred Staff Fitness Centre is open 24 hours and is staffed by an external fitness company with experience in running similar facilities. Basically all you could want from an external gym is available right here at work, with membership and casual visits priced well below commercial rates.

Caulfield Hospital has an on-site gym and is staffed by an external fitness company that provides a service in between that of a traditional gym and a personal trainer. Opening hours include morning, lunch and evening sessions, with state-of-the-art life fitness equipment and activities ranging from cardiovascular programs, group cycling, team sports and special events.

At Sandringham Hospital many staff members have been enjoying weekly group personal training sessions since 2004. Classes include a "weigh in" every six weeks, beach sessions, fit ball, boxing, weight training, cardio & resistance work and Pilate's exercises all in a fun and non-threatening atmosphere.  There is no on-site fitness centre at Sandringham.

Massage Service

Imagine a massage at the end of your shift, what better way to end the day! A privately operated Massage Service is located at The Alfred, and provides Swedish massage ranging from Relaxation to Deep Tissue, the cost is approximately $30 for ½ hour or $45 for an hour.

Superannuation

As a graduate you may not be so concerned with Super at this stage of your life, however you can trust we will look after you. The Alfred contributes an equivalent of 9% of your gross salary into a Super fund.

Staff Counselling

Alfred Health is committed to implementing programs that assist staff to perform at their best.

Our counselling service is a professional, brief, confidential solution-focussed approach to staff needs.  The service helps staff better manage their work and personal issues.

Discounts

As an Alfred staff member you are entitled to various discounts including the Monash University Bookshop (Alfred Mall) that gives discounts of between 10-15% for Alfred staff and the HealthSense Pharmacy (Alfred Mall) which offers 10% off most purchases.

Social Events

There are constantly a number of activities that take place at Alfred Health.

During October/November we hold Alfred Week which is an event for staff to celebrate achievement and organisational pride. The Alfred Christmas party held in December whereby approximately 500 staff attend.

Sandringham Hospital have a very active social club which organises a number of activities over the year, such as Bowling nights, theatre events and an Oaks Day BBQ.

Salary packaging

Wouldn't it be nice to have extra pay in your pocket each fortnight? Well you can have it if you choose to salary package as a staff member at Alfred Health. Packaging effectively means that you can pay your rent, HECS, credit card, loans etc through your salary before tax gets taken out of it, and this is where the saving lies. Salary Packaging has minimal costs and great advantages.

Staff Clinic

The staff clinic employs GP's just to look after your health and well being. The main focus of the clinic is on work related injuries and illnesses as well as preventative programs such as vaccinations. Of course if you take ill at work the staff in the clinic can be of assistance also.

Physiotherapy

Staff at The Alfred can have a physiotherapy consultation at the hospital for the minimal charge of approximately $15, Monday to Friday 8am-5pm.

Library

You have probably seen enough of the library while you have been at Uni, but you have not experienced the Ian Potter Library! We have a combined library for The Alfred, Monash Medical School and the Baker and Burnett Institutes. It has 24 hour access for staff and fantastic resources at your fingertips. A great resource for that future post grad qualification!

Caulfield and Sandringham Hospital have on-site library facilities that are available for access during the week.

Peer support

Alfred Health recognises that staff occasionally witness traumatic situations in the workplace. Peer Supporters are specially trained and help staff to deal with critical incidents.

Parking

Alfred Health provides parking for its staff with a priority to Nursing Staff. We have an on-site car park and various off-site parking locations (The Alfred) close by to each hospital. The cost of parking can come straight out of your pre-tax salary each fortnight.

The cost is approximately $7.10 per day (pre-tax) for The Alfred staff, approximately $5 per day for Caulfield staff and approximately $2.50 per day for Sandringham Staff.
