Sandringham Hospital is a member of Alfred Health and a teaching hospital for Monash University. The hospital provides a level 2 Special Care Nursery to support the Obstetric Service provided by Womens@Sandringham (up to 1500 obstetric deliveries per year) and provide care for premature babies transferred from Level 3 nurseries. 30% of all attendances at the Emergency Department are paediatric patients. Alfred CYMHS is also part of Alfred Health. The Paediatric Unit is supported by seven VMO paediatricians.
Sandringham Hospital is currently recruiting for 2017, one advanced paediatric trainee for a position accredited with the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Physicians as Elective training. If the 12 month full time position is completed, this satisfies 6/12 mandatory community training requirements for General Paediatric training.
The position duties include management of level two neonates and maternity ward neonates, attendance at emergency deliveries, outpatient clinics and support of the Emergency Department. Outpatient clinics include two general paediatric outpatient clinics per week, a weekly developmental assessment clinic and weekly Eating Disorders assessment review clinic at Alfred CYMHS. In the Emergency department the registrar provides support regarding paediatric presentation, review of paediatric admissions to Short Stay Unit. Quality assurance, audit activities and a strong focus on education and training of junior staff are also important components of the role. There are no on call or after hours requirements. The position commences in February 2017 for 12 months, although 6 month rotations will be considered. Job share applications will be considered.
