The Alfred Centre Project Summary
The Alfred Centre is:
- An innovative new model of care introducing the first of its kind in Victoria
- A $90m capital project made up of funding contributions from the state government, Bayside Health via a loan from the Treasury Corporation of Victoria and funds raised by The Alfred Foundation
- Includes a new visitor car park (12,00m2) which will significantly improves capacity for visitors and enables an increase in capacity for staff parking
- Is a state-of-the-art facility (7,500m2) wholly linked and integrated with the main Alfred Hospital. Linkages are provided via a basement tunnel, a level 1 linkway and at ground level
- Incorporates new medical technologies and equipment and improved and specifically designed IT to support high quality services
- Serves the local community as well as patients throughout Victoria. The Alfred Centre offers a comprehensive range of clinical services including a broad range of surgical and medical procedures, endoscopy and diagnostic procedures
- Includes 81 beds, which comprise a specially designed Medihotel, overnight beds, medical day procedure beds, day of surgery admission and recovery areas
- Provides capacity to treat up to 20,500 inpatients and 28,000 outpatients
- Is a demonstration model service which will be evaluated to understand its impact in improving health delivery systems and processes
- Has structures future proofed to enable future expansion and plans are being progressed to establish Stage 2 of The Alfred Centre which will incorporate a 17,100m2 extension to house research, education and clinical expansion
