About Sandringham Hospital
Sandringham Hospital is a community hospital with a strong focus on meeting the health care needs of its local community.
The Hospital plays an important part in the delivery of Women's & Children's Health for surrounding areas including a 12 bed Maternity and birthing suite, a level 2 Special Care Nursery, Breastfeeding Support & Paediatrics.
Our Emergency Department is seeing increasing numbers of patients including children with over 30000 Patients being seen in 2010.
The General Medical Units and Nursing Care teams support elective surgery generated by Alfred Health, including Anaesthetics, General Surgery, Gynaecological and Orthopaedic.
An Outpatient Clinic is also run Monday-Friday with clinics including Orthopaedic (including fracture clinic), Family Medical & Obstetrics, Pre-Admission, Paediatric & Cardiac Clinics.
A number of ambulatory care services are also located at Sandringham Hospital including a 12 chair Dialysis unit. Post-operative rehabilitation is co-ordinated between Sandringham and Caulfield Hospitals.
Additional services available include Physiotherapy, Diabetic Education, Aged Care, HITH, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Dieticians & Speech Pathology.
Sandringham Hospital also offers both inpatient and bulk billing outpatient service for Radiology and Pathology.
Sandringham Hospital's History
Over the years Sandringham Hospital has played a vital role in the community by providing exceptional and outstanding care that has earned it an enviable reputation as a community hospital.
Many of the original Fundraisers for the establishment of the Hospital in 1964 are still heavily involved in various Auxiliaries throughout the Hospital and continue to make an invaluable contribution.
In 1995, following the review of the Metropolitan Hospital Planning Board, the Hospital became a member of the Southern Health Care Network.
Since 2000, following the review by the Ministerial Review of Health Care Networks, Sandringham Hospital became part of Alfred Health, a Public Health Service that includes The Alfred & Caulfield Hospital.
Many of Sandringham Hospital's staff live in the local bayside community and we have a strong and dedicated Volunteer base whose time, energy and resources provide essential support to the hospital.
