This position is a 12 month rotation to the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at The Alfred.
Applications are encouraged from suitably qualified Australian or overseas trained doctors with an interest in Cardiac and/or Thoracic Surgery and thoracic transplantation.
The position will expose the successful candidate to a broad range of general Cardiothoracic Surgical procedures, which includes >550 cardiac cases and >300 thoracic cases per year. The Unit also has a very busy transplant program, performing 20-30 heart transplants and approximately 80-90 lung transplants per year. Our mechanical circulatory support program uses a variety of different devices, performing approximately 20 VAD implants per year as well as supporting a busy ECMO service. The successful applicant will be involved in all of these unit activities as well as the unit teaching program and will be expected to take part in unit research activities.
