Now in its 14th year, The Alfred's Father's Day Appeal continues to promote awareness of men's health as well as raise thousands of dollars for the hospital.
A tin collection at the MCG on 21 July was the first of a number of planned activities. Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Malvern, together with the men and women of The Australian Defence Force based at HMAS Cerberus, circulated through more than 83,000 footy fans to collect donations during the Collingwood versus Hawthorn match.
This year, for the first time, fans had the choice of purchasing an Alfred lapel pin for $5 or of making a donation in a collection tin.
Thank you to all volunteers for their fantastic efforts, and to the AFL, Collingwood and Hawthorn Football Clubs, Epicure, Stadia Media, Sunbury Coaches and the wonderful personnel of HMAS Cerbrus.
This year, funds raised from the appeal will help finalise the fundraising for the purchase of the hospital's first 3T MRI. The 3T MRI provides faster and more accurate diagnoses and - importantly - has the capacity to pick up subtle early warning signs which may result in earlier intervention.
Look out for the supersize banners promoting this year's appeal along St Kilda Rd and through the CBD in the weeks leading up to Father's Day. Also keep any eye out for the Appeal's Men's Health publication, available in Bunnings stores and other locations throughout Victoria.
A special thank you to our ongoing supporters Australian Brushware Company, Dulux, Thomson Real Estate, Wagner Spraytech, The Good Guys Brighton, ITW Proline and Alfs Café.
