Description of Service

Sandringham Hospital's General Medical Unit provides care for many types of patients, this is generally split into two groups Acute Medicine & Sub-Acute Medicine.

Staff
Consultant physicians care for patients in the General Medicine unit. Most of these physicians work at both Sandringham and The Alfred Hospitals as full time Acute/General physicians. A/Prof Harry Gibbs is Deputy Director of General Medicine, Alfred Health and Head of the General Medicine Unit at Sandringham Hospital
 
Sandringham Hospital's General Medical Unit provides care for many types of patients.
Our Acute medical team is supported by Physicians, Registrars, Interns and Nursing care team and covers diagnoses such as

  • Cardiac: heart failure, some heart attacks
  • Respiratory: infections and chronic diseases
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease: Renal failure, infections Delirium
  • Falls
  • Electrolyte imbalance

Referrals are made by your GP or via the Emergency Department.

Our Sub-Acute medical team is also supported by Physicians, Registrars, Interns and Nursing care team and covers diagnosis such as

  • fractures eg. hips, humerus, pelvis
  • post cardiac event
  • post exaserpation of respiratory  disease / infection
  • frail, elderly patients
  • recovering from acute illness

Referrals are made by your GP or via the Emergency Department.
