Description of Service

Baringa is a secure 15 bed purpose built, acute in-patient facility at Caulfield Hospital, within the city of Glen Eira, and delivers a service to those living in the cities of Port Philip, Stonington and Glen Eira. It provides psychiatric assessment, management and treatment for people aged over 65 years old, during an acute phase of a severe and enduring mental illness, which cannot be managed with support from community teams.  This may also include a range of behavioural issues associated with other disorders such as dementia. Baringa is a short-term facility and length of stay is variable depending on individual need.

Our multidisciplinary assessment incorporates the following services:

  • Psychiatric assessment and treatment
  • 24 hour medical and nursing care
  • Occupational therapy
  • Social work
  • Physiotherapy
  • Music therapy
  • Interpreters 
  • Dietician
  • Podiatry  
  • Education to patients and their carers/families
