Description of Service

Podiatry is a health profession which specialises in the prevention, diagnoses, treatment and rehabilitation of disorders of the foot and lower limb.

Our principle target population are inpatients and outpatients who have foot problems of an extremely serious nature such as foot ulceration, infection or acute Charcot's foot (neuroarthropathy).

These patients are most at risk of admission for a lower limb amputation which could have a significant impact on their morbidity and mortality.

Outpatient Information
The Alfred Podiatry department provides specialist podiatric care to patients of The Alfred. There is no charge for appointments, however prescribed orthotics will be charged to the patient.

Patients assessed to be of low or moderate priority will be referred to local podiatry services within their area.

Referral Information: All patients require a written referral from a medical officer within The Alfred. Referrals are prioritised according to urgency and those with a wound or infection will be the highest priority.
